- OBITUARY.
Elizabeth, the wife of Christopher Swackhammer, departed this life on Sabbath, the 23rd April, at the age of 47 years and 8 months, leaving a husband and 9 children to mourn her loss.
As a wife and mother she was devoted, affectionate and faithful. She lived for the good of her household, sacrificing herself for their comfort and well-being. As a neighbor she was kind and thoughtful, ready in time of need to sympathise with and help the suffering and sorrowing. She was a member of the Congregational church, Churchill, for 29 years, during which time her spirit, conversation and life demonstrated that the fear of God was before her eyes and the love of Jesus strong in her heart. God's house and worship were her delight, and the prosperity of His kingdom was her joy. Liberal in her views and kindly in her feelings, she was the friend of all. Affliction in her family, more or less for four years past, had so undermined her constitution, which was naturally feeble, that when the disease seized her, that had gone through her family, she sank rapidly, till she fell asleep in Jesus, after ten days' suffering. Her death was improved by her pastor, on the 25th ult., from the words: "There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God," - {Heb. iv. 9}, to a large and sympathising congregation. - COM. - Featured Link
