OBITUARY
It becomes our painful duty to record the death of John Lyon, Esq., one of the early settlers of this county, and the father of the present member.
The deceased enjoyed his usual health until a week of his death, when he gradually sank until noon on Tuesday, the 6th inst., when he peacefully passed away to his eternal rest, in the eighty-fifth year of his age. Deceased was a native of Scotland, and emigrated from the city of Glasgow in 1832, and has resided in the township of Esquesing since that time. He was a man who possessed a large amount of information, great energy, a strong will, much independence of character, and strict integrity. On his arrival in Canada he associated himself with the great Reform party, of which he remained an unwavering supporter, and often recounted, in no measured terms, the misrule of the Family Compact, the evils of Church and State, and many other political evils the people of his adopted land had to contend against. The old veterans who called things by their right names are fast passing away. - Champion.
