Sad Death of a Respected Resident.
Our citizens generally were surprised on Saturday morning with the news of the death of James Anderson, Esq., who resided on Main street next to School Lane. Mr. Andersonn's health was fairly good for one of his age up to Thursday, when gangrene made its appearance in one of his feet. He endured very little suffering and about four o'clock Saturday morning his death took place. Mr. Anderson was born in Breadalbane, Perthshire, Scotland, in 1810; came to Canada in 1832 and settled in the Scotch Block, Esquesing, where he remained until he came to Acton in October, 1886. At this date having accumulated an ample competence he retired from active life. Mr. Anderson was a staunch Presbyterian and although offered the position of elder he refused on the ground that having no children he was not the man who should occupy such an office. His partner in life survives him. His remains were interred in Boston Cemetery on Monday.
