Death of an Esteemed Early Settler.
Of late years the ranks of Acton's early settlers have been very rapidly thinning out and but few of those who first trod our streets now remains and this week we have to record the death of another. On Saturday morning Mr. James Cameron who has been failing for some years quietly passed away at the home of his son, Mr. Thomas Cameron, at the age of 77 years. Away back about 1836 Mr. Cameron with his wife and a couple of children settled in Acton, and we can ascertain only two neighbors now residing in Acton who were here then; Messrs. Asa Hall and Alex. Grant. Mr. Cameron has ever since been one of most respected citizens. He was always engaged in farming, was a kind and obliging neighbor, a good citizen and a christian man. He was the father of a large family, who, like many other families are scattered in all parts of the country, only Thomas remaining in the old home. Mrs. Cameron, who was one of the sweetest characters we have ever met preceeded him to her eternal home some ten years ago. Mr. Cameron was not one who sought notoriety in public offices, but he nevertheless took a lively interest in the affairs of the community. He was a member of the Congregational church, and for many years a regular attendant of the church at Church Hill. His remains were interred in Fairview Cemetery on Tuesday, a large number of friends attending to pay this last tribute of respect.- Featured Link
