A Sorely Afflicted Family.
Isaiah Halliday, of the Scotch Block died last week after many months of suffering. Last June he was assisting a neighbor with his haying, and while on the load with his son building it, the horses ran away. One of the wheels struck a stump, throwing him off. When picked up the poor fellow was found to be seriously injured. A Milton physician was hastily summoned, when it was found that through injury to the spine he was paralyzed from the breast down. For seven weeks Halladay lay as though dead, merely being moved from side to side for ease. It was then, and only then, that the three physicians in attendance found out that one of his ribs had been broken off from the backbone. From that time up to last week, Halliday had been lying in that predicament. To add to the poor fellow's trouble, last fall a little son was added to the five children, on the same day that his only daughter, a bright girl of eleven years, was taken down with scarlet fever, dying four days later. He was a brave man through it all, but for weeks after poor Halladay would turn on his pillow and look at the door of the room in which the dead body of his favorite child had lain, and break down. As he occuipied the main room of the little cottage some idea can be conceived on his anguish and suffering.
