Decease of Rev. Father Maloney.
Rev. Father Maloney, parish priest of Durham, died very suddenly at Glenelg last Thursday of pneumonia at the early age of 28 years. Deceased - Richard D. Maloney was the son of the late David Maloney - and was born in Acton in 1868. His first teacher in Acton Public School was Mrs. H. P. Moore when a member of the staff in 1874, and he completed his education here under Mr. Thomas T. Moore the present principal. About this time the late Rev. Father Du Mortier persuaded the family that Richard should engage in studies with a view to the priesthood. To this end he commenced his course at Guelph under the Jesuit Fathers; subsequently at Jerome's College, Berlin; St. Basil's, Toronto; and completed his education at the Grand Seminary, Montreal. Rev. Father Maloney was ordained in Hamilton and spent some time in connection with St. Mary's Cathedral there and was subsequently appointed to the parish of Durham and Markdale. His mother and brother have been residing with him since their removal from Acton. Rev. Father Haley was sent for last Friday to conduct the funeral but owing to the snow blockade was unable to reach Durham.
