Phillips Hangs himself in
His Barn.
ORTON, August 5. - William Phillips, an old man residing on the Erin side of the town line, about one mile from Orton, committed suicide in his barn this morning. He tied a rope to a beam and jumped from a load of hay, which was standing on the floor. His neck was broken. He was found dead suspended by a rope from a beam about the centre of the floor. His feet were touching the ground.
Phillips arose from breakfast at eight o'clock and appeared in his usual health and spirits. No sign of insanity had ever been noticed on him.
He was seventy-four years old.
A well to do family survive him. One son lives a short distance from Fergus. - Featured Link
