Death of a Mother Beloved.
The death occurred last Wednesday afternoon, 31st July, at the home of her son-in-law, John Harvey, Esq., of a highly esteemed old lady, an early settler in Esquesing, in the person of Elizabeth Ann Smith, widow of the late William McClure, of Esquesing. Mrs. McClure has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Harvey, the past ten years. She had reached the ripe old age of nearly eighty-four, had gradually declined and finally fell upon the peaceful sleep of the just. Her wants in her declining years were lovingly ministered to by her daughter and her husband and children and the old lady's motherly counsel was always appreciated. Mrs. McClure was born in the Niagara District and remembered well many interesting incidents of the rebellion of 1837. About this time they removed to lot 10, con. 5, Chingoucasy. Sixty-five years ago she married William McClure and the new family settled on lot 25, con. 10, Esquesing, near Glenwilliams, where they lived a happy and prosperous life together for more than fifty years. Mr. McClure died on the 14th Feb., 1887. Nine children blessed their union, of whom the following survive: Mrs. John S. Leslie, Norval, Isaac McClure, Paisley, Samuel at Glenwilliams, Benajah at Lucknow, William at Alberta, N.W.T., Mrs. John Harvey, Acton, and David at Indian Head. Mrs. McClure was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, and a very regular attendent as long as she was able to go. The remains were tenderly laid at rest last Friday afternoon in the cemetery at Glenwilliams. Rev. H. A. Macpherson officiated at the residence and was assisted at the cemetery by Rev. W. M. McKay, of Norval. The following friends from a distance attended the funeral: - Mr. Isaac McLure, Paisley, Mr. B. McClure, Lucknow, Dr. Chrisholm, Wingham, Miss Reynolds, Boston, Mr. L. McClure, Mrs. McKinny, Brampton, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Arnott, Churchville, Mr. John McClure, Mrs. S. McClure, and Miss Luva McClure, Huttonville, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Leslie, Mr. Joe Leslie and Miss May Leslie, Norval, Mr. and Mrs. John McClure, Mrs. Drinkwater, Georgetown, Mr. and Mrs. S. McClure, Mrs. Prost, Mr. and Mrs. Eccles, Mr. and Mrs. Hoare, Glenwilliams, Mr. Samuel McClure, Miss A. J. McClure and Miss Lizzie McClure, Ballinafad.
