Mrs. John Leslie, a Settler For
Seventy Years, Passes
Away.
Very rapidly are the pioneers of this section passing off the state of action. Death called Mrs. John Leslie last Wednesday, after a brief illness. Jane Starrett was born in county Tyrone, Ireland, on January 6th, 1816. She came to Canada with her mother, two brothers and two sisters in 1832. Three years later, on the 25th September 1835, she wedded John Leslie. They founded a home which was one of the most hospitable of this community, and a large family blessed it. Mr. Leslie died a year ago after sixty-six years spent happily together.
There were eleven children, of whom the following survive: John at St. Marys; Robert, on the homestead; George and James, in Washington, Pa.; Samuel, at East Liverpool, Ohio; Mrs. Gamble, at Listowel; Kate, at home, and Mrs. Morris, at Alton.
The funeral on Saturday was very largely attended. The pall bearers were, Robert Starrett, Washington, Pa.; Alex. Starrett, Glenwilliams; Wm. Starrett, St. Marys; Robert Leslie, Chinguacousy; James Leslie Georgetown, and George Leslie, Erin, all nephews. - Featured Link
