DEPLORABLE FATAL ACCIDENT.
W. McVeigh, G.T.R. Switchman at
Georgetown, Run over Last
Thursday, Afternoon
WAS BURIED HERE ON MONDAY.

Last Thursday afternoon W. McVeigh, G.T.R. switchman at Georgetown, met with an accident which terminated fatally on Saturday evening.
While endeavoring to reach a bolt that had fallen under a train in the yard at Georgetown shortly after one o'clock Thursday, the brakesman, who was not aware of the position McVeigh was in, gave the signal, and the train moved forward, causing the accident. The wheels on one of the trucks passed over his left thigh and his right leg a little above the ankle, causing double fractures on both limbs. His injuries were temporarily dressed at Georgetown and he was taken to Guelph by the 7 o'clock train accompanied by Dr. Roe, and was removed in the ambulance to the hospital.
The shock caused heart trouble and the doctors at the hospital were unable to reduce the fractures or perform the necessary amputation. Death ended the poor fellow's sufferings on Saturday evening.
Mr. McVeigh was an old employee of the railway. He left a wife and six children.
The remains were brought to the home of Mr. John Thomas, Church Street, deceased father-in-law, on Monday morning and interment took place in Fairview Cemetery in the afternoon. The service was conducted by Revs. W. S. McAlpine, A. E. Smith, D. Dick and H. A. Macpherson.
