In the death on the 18th inst., of Robert Thompson, Esquesing, this section lost a man of sterling character, one who enjoyed the esteem of all. Mr. Thompson was a native of county Antrim, Ireland, where he was born in 1827. He came to Canada when a young man of twenty-five, and spent the first half dozen years in Toronto township. In the year 1858 he settled in Nassagaweya, near Sodom, and four years later he was joined in wedlock with Margaret Ritchie, daughter of the late Robert Ritchie, well-known in Nassagaweya. In 1880 he bought the McDonald Farm, in Esquesing, which has since been his home. In addition to the widow four sons and three daughters survive, viz., William and John, Esquesing, James and Joseph and Maggie and Jennie, on the homestead; and Mrs. Webb, of Eden Mills. Four brothers are also living: Thomas in Ireland: William, of East Garafraxa, Samuel and David of Garafraxa. The remains were laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Acton, last Wednesday. - Featured Link
