Death of Mrs. George Douglas.
Deep sorrow came into one of the happiest homes in this community yesterday morning, when death claimed Mrs. George Douglas, at the home of her husband, lot 18, con. 1, Esquesing, after a very brief illness. Some five weeks ago Mrs. Douglas suffered for a few days with an attack of appendicitis. She recovered and regained her usual health, and was able three weeks ago to attend service in Knox Church. A week or so ago, however, she again became ill from affection of the heart and liver, and yesterday morning between seven and eight o'clock her spirit peacefully took its flight. Mrs. Douglas was the eldest daughter of George Manson, farmer, Brims, Parish of Thurso, Scotland, where she was born nearly sixty-four years ago. She married George Douglas on the 6th December, 1862. They came to Canada in April, 1871, and two years later settled on the farm where the family still resides. Six children were born to them, four in Scotland and two after coming to Canada. These are Donald, William, James, Alexandrina, Jessie and Betsy, all of whom survive. Mrs. Douglas was a good woman. Her home was her greatest thought, but for all the blessings which came she reverently gave thanks to the Giver of all Good. Her family never wanted a mother's loving care. Her neighbors counted her a friend of the most practical kind. General sympathy is felt for Mr. Douglas and his bereaved family.
