- THE BURIAL OF JOHN WARREN.
A large Concourse of Leading Citi-
zens of the County Attended
the Funeral.
The funeral of the late John Warren, ex-Warden of the county of Halton, held last Thursday afternoon was very largely attended.
The service was in charge of Rev. W. S. McAlpine, B.A., who was assisted by Revs. Smith, Dick and Drysdale. After prayer by Rev. Dick, Rev. R. J. Drysadale read appropriate selections from the Old Testament, and Rev. A. E. Smith, B.D., a number from the New Testament.
Rev. Mr. McAlpine then delivered a very tender and fitting address, ending with a eulogy of the life and character of the departed. He said: We have gathered this beautiful afternoon to pay our respects to the memory of one whom you have all well known; whose life has been before you for many years. We are taught to believe that this life is not the end, but the beginning of things to come. There is an end to life on earth, but we are more concerned about what will happen after death. If Jesus had not risen we would be left very much in the dark, but He had a resurrection, and the New Testament is full of comfort and strength to those who believe. The Scriptures are very emphatic concerning those who have been saints - the Christian, the one who trusts in Jesus Christ - as to what the reward shall be. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord." Jesus Christ himself said: "I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me shall never die." Those who have died in the faith have entered into rich possession. St. Paul said: "Now we know, etc." There are no more blessed works of revelation than those which enable us to lay hold upon such words as were uttered by the apostle. There are those here who have had associations with Mr. Warren in business, in political, municipal, and other matters, and they willingly testify that he lived up to his profession. The principles of Jesus Christ were brought out in his daily life. I have been hearing of this with respect to him ever since I came to Acton. But we are not here to laud or magnify any man, but to extend sympaty and comfort to the friends and loved ones who are left behind. We now pay our last respects to the body of him who lived and moved amongst us. He was ready for the call. Let us also be ready. "Blessed is the man whom the Lord when he cometh shall find watching."
The pall-bearers were the four sons, Messrs. James L., Robert D., John M., and Cameron; Mr. W. T. Stone, son-in-law, and Mr. Ernest Warren, grandson.
There was a large and representative attendance of friends and out of the county, amongst them being John R. Barber, M.P.P., and Mrs. Barber, H. P. Lawson, Wm. McLeod, H. W. Kennedy, B.A., L. Grant, D. Cook, R. F. Bessey, J. Z. Bessey, J. R. Lindsay, Miss Lindsay, H. A. McCullough, Mr. and Mrs. John McDonald, J. M. Moore, W.
