- DEATH OF JOHN A. DAVIDSON.
Late of the Guelph Mercury, at
Guelph on Saturday.
A couple of weeks ago Mr. John A. Davidson, late of the Guelph Mercury, was stricken with paralysis. He never spoke from the time of the attack, and passed away early on Sunday morning. Deceased was one of Ontario's oldest printers, having served his apprenticeship on the Streetsville Review more than fifty years ago. He was connected with the Guelph Mercury for thirty years, being one of the proprietors for a quarter of a century. He was highly esteemed among the journalists of the country and was an ex-President of the Canadian Press Association. He was a Reformer in politics, a Methodist in religion, and was one of the leaders in establishing the Dublin Street Methodist Church, of which he was a prominent member and an active worker.
In 1856 deceased married Miss Freeman of Georgetown, by whom he had six children. Mrs. Davidson died in Guelph. Only two children survive, Cleere and Augustus, jewellers, Vancouver. He afterwards married Miss Elsie Innes, sister of his partner. The funeral was held on Tuesday. - Media Type
