Sad Drowning in Burlington Bay.
The case of the drowning of Sergt. T.A. Fletcher, of Hamilton, while skating on Burlington Bay on Saturday afternoon, will have special interest for FREE PRESS readers because the unfortunate young man was accompanied by Miss Jessie Gray, who was for three years head milliner for Messrs. Henderson & Co. The young couple started from the Brant House, Burlington, to skate across the bay to Hamilton, but when some distance out got on thin ice and sank into the water. Fletcher never came to the surface. Miss Gray was rescued, but endured a terrible experience until secured by Walter Filman, who saw the mishap, ran from the shore, and after great difficulty got her out. Both were so exhausted that they became unconscious and had to be helped to the shore by Filman's uncle. Miss Gray was able on Monday to leave for her home in Stayner.
