- Was One of Our Oldest Citizens.
One of Acton's oldest citizens, Mr. Williamson Ramshaw, departed this life at the residence of his son on Young St., rather suddenly on Friday, Sept. 7th. Mr. Ramshaw had been well, in fact quite well and hearty until that morning, when he was seized with an apoplectic stroke and died in about two hours. He was 80 years old. Mr. Ramshaw came from Stoutley, Yorkshire, England, 74 years ago, and was brought up and lived the early years of his life at the Scotch Block. In 1851 he was married to Isabella Michie, of the Scotch Block, who died seven years ago. He learned his trade as a carpenter with the well-known Mr. Livingstone, of the Scotch Block, and then worked for years framing buildings in Esquesing and Nassagaweya, among them being the old Presbyterian Church in Acton. He came to Acton in 1874 and has since lived here, working at his trade until 14 years ago, when he became helplessly blind. The family consists of three children: Mrs. Morton, of Port Huron: Thomas, of Toronto Junction, and Alex., of Acton. The funeral on Sunday, 9th inst., was conducted by Rev. J. C. Wilson and was largely attended. The remains were laid at rest in Fairview Cemetery. - Media Type
