Death of Mr. Jno. Stauffer.
Mr. Stauffer passed peacefully away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jno. W. Snyder, on Wednesday morning, 5th December. Deceased had been in very poor health for some time, being a victim of heart disease, and his death was not unexpected. He was born in the township of Erin, in 1837, nearly 70 years ago, and was one of the early pioneers. He was the sixth child - there being five older, and thirteen younger, - of Issac and Jane Stauffer, who with their large family of 19 children, lived near Acton and vicinity for many years previous to their removal to Caledonia, Michigan, where they both died. Mr. Stauffer was married in 1858 to Margaret Anna Foster, of Caledon. After their marriage they removed to a farm near the village of Erin, subsequently moving to lot 3, con. 10, Garafraxa, near Orton, where they lived together 44 years, till the death of Mrs. Stauffer nearly four years ago. 13 children were born to them, 3 of whom died in infancy. The following survive: Mrs. Jas. W. Longstreet, Belfountain, Mrs. Jno. W. Snyder, Acton; Alex., Hereward; Chancelor, Acton; Ettie, Guelph; Robert, Hamilton; Isaac, on the old homestead, Orton; Abraham, of the Horological Institute, Toronto, and Ella, Toronto. He was a member of the Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, first at the Grove and latterly of St. John's, Orton. In politics he was a Reforrmer. His funeral took place on Friday from Mrs. Snyder's in the Congregational Church, Churchill. Rev. Mr. Taylor, of Rockwood, spoke briefly and kindly of deceased. Interment took place at the Grove Cemetery where he was laid to rest in the family plot beside his wife and daughter, the Rev. Fred. J. Kaye, of Orton, officiating.
