Mrs. (Rev.) Argo Killed by Train.
Mrs. Argo, wife of Rev. James Argo, of Melville Presbyterian Church, Ivan, Ont. was instantly killed at the St. George crossing of the C.P.R. on Thursday noon. Mrs. Argo was in a sleigh with three others. As they neared the crossing the driver heard the train and whipped up the horses. Mrs. Argo evidently thought they would not get over it in time, for she jumped out and fell immediately in front of the engine, and the whole train passed over her body. The rest of the party escaped almost unhurt. The news of this lamentable tragedy will be read with deep regret in this district, both Mr. and Mrs. Argo having many friends in this vicinity. Mrs. Argo was the third daughter of Mr. Wm. Wilkie, for many years resident in Guelph. Her brother is Rev. John Wilkie, head of the Gwalior mission in India. Rev. and Mrs. Argo were married in Toronto about twenty years ago. Rev. Mr. Argo is a brother of Mr. Wm. Argo, of Eden Mills, where he lived until he began his studies for the ministry. They had lived at Ivan, Middlesex Co. but a few months, having moved there from Duart, in the County of Elgin. Previously Rev. Mr. Argo was the Presbyterian minister at Norval. Five children, three boys and two girls, the eldest of whom is 19, and the youngest about 4 years of age, are left. The family and other relatives will have the heartfelt sympathy of many old friends here in their sudden and distressing bereavement.
