ROCKWOOD.
Councillor Robert Hamilton, of Eramosa, died at his home near Rockwood, last Thursday evening. His fifteen children, though widely scattered, were all gathered at his bedside and he was able to recognize each and say an affectionate farewell. Some weeks ago Mr. Hamilton had a slight stroke of paralysis. His heart trouble brought about other complications and death was the result.
Robert Hamilton was born on the farm on which he died, lot 4, concession 4, Eramosa, in 1836. His father, the late William Hamilton, was one of the pioneers of the township, having emigrated with his young wife from the native county, Antrim, Ireland, in the early thirties. Robert was the youngest of the family.
In 1862 Mr. Hamilton was married to Miss Elizabeth Burnett, of Eramosa, who pre-deceased him six years ago. By their union, fifteen children were born and all are still alive. The children are: James A., Mrs. C. Benham, Eramosa; Ernest and Agnes, Mrs. Wm. Kruger, Chicago; William, Toronto; Mrs. Norris Black, Eramosa; Mrs. Boughtnor, Capetown; Annie, Charles, Fred, Ethel, Irene, Myrtle, and Ella at home.
