- Alf. Budd, "the Capitalist," Dead.
News reached town yesterday morning that Alf. Budd had been found dead in bed at St. Clemens. In company with Merrs. Warner Nicklin, W. J. Gould, and H. Arnold he went to Clemens by the Tuesday afternoon train, ostensibly to purchase horses. They put up at the St. Clements' Hotel, deceased and Warner Nicklin occupying the same bed. In the morning when Nicklin awoke he found Budd cold and stiff and apparently dead for some time. Mr. James Abraham an acquaintance of the unfortunate deceased, and Undertaker Johnstone went to St. Clements yesterday morning to bring back the remains. Since the deceased received his legacy of $1,067 from his father's estate in England, three weeks ago, he has been on a continual spree. He was under the influence of liquor when he left here on Tuesday. His sudden death is a very natural outcome of his long debaucy. He had already gotten rid of over $600 of the money received; the balance remains to the credit of his account in the bank here. Deceased was about forty years of age. He came to Acton from his father's home, Great Western Road, London, Eng., eighteen or nineteen years ago. - Featured Link
