A VERY SAD FATAL ACCIDENT
David McKeown Fell From His Wag-
gon, Sustaining Fracture
of the Skull
AND DIED A FEW HOURS LATER
By a very simple accident a happy home has lost its devoted head, and this town one of its most esteemed citizens.
About half-past eight on Tuesday morning Mr. David McKeown, manager of the farm and garden of Postmaster Matthews, had just driven off Main Street toward the barn at the market garden with a cutting box in the waggon. The waggon slewed slightly and in attempting to reach the machine to steady it he evidently became overbalanced and fell out of the waggon backwards, striking his head with great force on the frozen ground. The blow on his head rendered him unconscious. Subsequent medical examination proved that his skull was seriously fractured.
He was tenderly carried into the home of Mr. William Hawthorne, and lingered until about three o'clock when death came.
David McKeown was a son of the late David McKeown, Sr., and was born in 1848 at the family homestead, lot 6, con. 1, Erin. In 1879 he married Mary Ching, daughter of the late William Ching, of the first line, Erin. Mrs. McKeown, four sons and one daughter survive. They are Charlie and Albert in Erin, William in Michell, B.C., Robert in Toronto, and Mable at home. Of the three sons and seven daughters in his father's family, his is the first death.
From his early boyhood Mr. McKeown, himself the son of godly parents, was a Christian. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a man of sterling character. The family removed from the farm to Acton three or four years ago, and have resided for some time in their residence on Agnes St.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock to Fairview Cemetery.
