Death of Rev. William Bryers
Intimation reached Acton last week of the death on Wednesday, October 27th, of Rev. William Bryers at his home in Napanee, at the ripe old age of 83 years and 10 days. After teaching for a number of years he entered the Methodist ministry in 1853, his first circuit being Bath, near Kingston. In 1860 he was transferred to London Conference, and was the minister at Norwich for three years. In later years he was pastor at Fergus, and was appointed to Acton in 1882. In 1888, while at Kingsville, he was Chairman of Windsor District. He superannnuated in 1893 and came to Acton, living here as a retired minister for seven years. About nine years ago he removed from Acton and took up his residence in Napanee, the former home of Mrs. Bryers. For several years his health has been declining. He was a faithful minister, very sociable and friendly, and the native wit inherited from the land of his birth was ever manifest. Mrs. Bryers, their eldest son, Mr. Fred Bryers, of Montreal; and three daughters, Mrs. Austin Robinson, of Violet; Mrs. J. Bartle, of Niagara Falls, and Miss Nettle at home, survive him.
