- SAD SUICIDE OF JOHN MEAD
Former Nassagaweya Fruit Raiser
Ends his Life in Hamilton
RETIRED ABOUT A YEAR AGO
The following despatch from Hamilton on Monday caused consternation among the friends of deceased in Acton and Nassagaweya:
"John Mead, a retired farmer residing at 111 Blake Street, committed suicide in the cellar of his home at 9.30 Sunday morning by hanging himself. He was 68 years of age, and had just recently removed into the city. The motive given for his committing suicide was that he was despondent because he was ill. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon."
Mr. Mead was a successful fruit-grower on the Guelph Road, near Brookville, for many years. He sold his fruit farm a year ago and removed to Hamilton.
He was a man, highly esteemed, industrious and successful. Many of our citizens were acquainted with him, as for years he disposed of the bulk of his fruits in Acton from door to door.
The termination of his useful life is much regretted, and cordial sympathy is extended to Mrs. Mead and her daughter, who live in Hamilton, and the only son in California. - Featured Link
