Alexander Nairn, formerly of this village, died at his home in Toronto last Friday. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 22nd, 1832, the late Mr. Nairn came to Canada in 1847 and settled in Rockwood. Here he conducted a business as grain commission and general merchant. He was among the first to ship grain over this section of the Grand Trunk Railway, which business, in a large degree, established the prosperity of Rockwood. He also carried on a milling and lumbering business at Everton and Hanover. After moving to Toronto in 1874 he established, with his brother, Stephen, the well-known firm of A. and N. Nairn, wharfingers and coal merchants and built one of the finest docks on the waterfront known as the Nairn dock. - Featured Link
