- ...stations located an enemy submarine south of newfoundland, and a scratch hunting group under the command of captain (D), Halifax, who happened to be aboard HMCS RESTIGOUCHE, was sent to hunt it. Oakville was one of the shops detailed. However, the weather became so foul with force nine winds and forty-foot seas, that the hunt was called off before any of the ships reached the datum point.
She continued with escort duties until 2 April 1945 when she was taken in hand for refitting by Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Ltd. She was still there on 7 May when the Germans surrendered. She was ready for sea again on 4 June, however, distances in the Pacific were too great for corvettes to be used in the campaign against Japan so she was paid off for disposal at Sydney on 16 July 1945 and towed to Sorel, Quebec, to be laid up. She was later sold to the Government of Venezuela in whose navy she served for at least fifteen years under the name of PATRIA. - Subject(s)
