- The Palmers were the first Canadians to wed in England during the war. Zouch Palmer, with the Canadian Field Artillery, married Peggy Palmer, daughter of Brigadier General H.D. G. Crerar, in the garrison church in Aldershot, England. They moved to Oakville in 1947.
