Newspaper article: Peter Taylor and Margaret Taylor (brother and sister) meet on ship bound for England in 1942.

Lieut. Margaret Taylor, nursing sister, and her brother, Gunner Peter Taylor, of Oakville, late last spring made a bet of $5 as to which would arrive in England first. Neither won, as they arrived on the same ship, according to a letter received by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taylor, Oakville.

A letter from Nursing Sister Taylor related that her brother recognized her as she was boarding the boat with a party of nurses. He hailed her but she did not hear him.

That night Lieut. Taylor met an officer and asked him if her brother's unit was on board.

He replied that he was commanding the unit and arranged for brother and sister to meet, also for them to be together each day during the crossing.

Nursing Sister Taylor, a graduate of the Hospital for Sick Children in 1935, won awards for operating room technique. She took a post-graduate course in Montreal General hospital in surgery, followed by a course in Toronto General hospital.

Enlisting in September, 1942, she was stationed at Chorley Park where she was superintendent of one of the operating rooms.

She was one of the selected group of operating room nurses attached to the 18th Canadian General hospital unit.

Gunner Taylor enlisted in June, 1942. Pete was an outstanding athlete -- Canadian champion sprinter in 1940 at 17. He holds the Canadian army record of 220 yards.
