Larry Scott, who was campaign manager for Young in 2008 when the federal Conservative candidate was elected, will now have a campaign of his own, provincially. On Wednesday morning, the 55-year-old held a press conference to declare he is seek- ing the candidacy in the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontarios Oakville rid- ing. Last Thursday evening (Oct. 14) I saw a strange sight. I saw people in Oakville with tears of joy over something their provincial government was not going to do, he said in his prepared speech. This issue is not over. Even after cancel- ing this foolish proposal last week because of the efforts of the C4CA, they still dont admit it was because of health concerns. Why? Because they plan on pushing ahead with a similar plant next to one of the richest farm lands in Canada, the Holland Marsh. He went on to say, I believe that people have the right to live in their homes and com- munity without being under threat of their own government and I intend to do some- thing about it. Scott made his presentation on a vacant employment property at 1453 Cornwall Rd. On one side of this property there is a clear view of where the 900-megawatt gas-fired power plant would have been built at 1500 Royal Windsor Dr. not far away. On the other side of Cornwall there is a school. I picked this location because what has happened here should not have happened, he said referring to the proposed power plant. Another reason why hes hoping to become an MPP for Oakville is because he hopes to curb the rampant spending by the Province that has increased Ontarios debt. He also wants to stop the tax increases by the Province. In 2003 Mr. McGuinty, Kevin Flynn (Oakville MPP) along with Liberal colleagues solemnly promised not to raise taxes. Then they created the largest tax increase in Ontarios history the health fee sucking tens of millions of dollars out of Ontario and Oakville. He also pointed to the creation of the HST and the flip-flop on the Eco Fee, which has since been scrapped. He also mentioned that hydro rates will go up by 40 per cent in the coming year. Yet, despite massive tax increases, McGuinty and Flynn have created a $20 billion deficit with no realistic plan to pay it down. Scott is a senior finance executive who has worked with banks and business in Canada and abroad. He was on the board of governors of Wilfrid Laurier University where he served on the finance, audit, pension and investments committees. He holds a bachelors degree in economics from Wilfrid Laurier and a masters degree from Queens University. Hes worked with multiple organizations around Oakville and is currently the chief financial officer of the federal Conservative Party, Oakville Riding and is its past-president.
