Shepley is defending her Canadian Professional Golfers Association Womens Championship at the Burlington Golf and Country Club. The two-round tournament wraps up today (Wednesday). Shepley likes the historic old Stanley Thompson-designed Burlington layout but she cant claim to know it all that well. The last time I played Burlington was when the CPGA was here in 2005, she said before the tournament opened Tuesday. I do like it. It sets up well for me. There are a cou- ple of par 5s that are reachable in two. And I like the look of it. She took advantage of those par 5s Tuesday, with birdies on No. 9 and 10. However, she closed her round with bogeys on the final two holes to finish with a one-over-par 72. Last year at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club, Shepley birdied the final hole for a two-round total of 135 and a one-stroke win over American Clarissa Childs. Shepley is winding down her playing schedule this year. After the CPGA champi- onship, she has one event left on the Duramed Futures Tour. She will also play in the LPGA Tours CN Canadian Womens Open, from Aug. 26 to 29 at St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg on an exemption she received for winning the CPGA last year. She says she may try to Monday-qualify for a few more LPGA Tour events and then its off to LPGA Tour Q-school in Daytona Beach, Fla. from Dec. 8 to 12. Three other Oakville golfers are also com- peting in the tournament Allison Wright, Carrie Vaughan and amateur Kaitlyn Marrin. Wright opened with a 79 while Marrin shot an 82. Vaughan was one-under through 10 holes at press time. Laura Bavaird held a three-stroke lead after shooting a 65. with files from Oakville Beaver staff The Oakville Blades will begin the defence of their Central Canadian title Friday against the Upper Canada Patriots.
