Its our Birthday Bash! By the time they reached the age of 20, life had carved a different path for Fleming as she was living in England studying dance. Macmillan recalls making the trip to see her for 10 days and Flemings boyfriend was confused about his presence there. He couldnt understand why he would travel that far just to visit a friend. All of our partners over the years had many misgivings about our friendship and rightfully so, as why should two peo- ple who were so very close, not be togeth- er? said Macmillan. He almost got his wish a few years later. Fleming was on the verge of getting married while Macmillan had just gotten out of a relationship. The two of them shared a moment at a family cottage one time that nearly changed everything. We almost got together, but she was about to be married and I had just come out of a relationship, said Macmillan. The timing wasn't right and I spent the better part of the next 20 years regretting the fact that I'd put a stop to that moment. As luck would have it, opportunity struck again for Macmillan in the sum- mer of 2006. The timing was a bit better as neither were in a relationship. This would allow them to make a get- away to the cottage for a week. Macmillan decided this time would be make or break for him. Finally, the time came for their week away together at the cottage. Once again, Macmillan found himself in a situation going for a walk with Fleming after dinner. They returned to the cottage to sit on the dock beneath a blanket to do some stargazing, where he sat and wished upon all the shooting stars he had seen. I wished upon every single one that I could just get that moment back again that we had 20 years ago, and share that kiss again. Well, little did he know that moment was coming. For Macmillan, this was the opportunity he had been waiting for since that day in the Grade 3 classroom when he first laid eyes on Fleming. After snuggling there together for four hours or so, the words I had longed to hear...she said, The door is open now, and we kissed. And talk about fireworks, said Macmillan. It was the most incredi- ble experience of my life. Nothing had ever felt so right! After the kiss, Macmillan wanted to propose to Fleming right there. But she wanted to give it a year to see how things progressed. Life went well for the two of them as they eventually moved in togeth- er. About six months later, Fleming was about to get the surprise of her life. I tricked her into going for a drive with me supposedly to my fathers house, which was just down the street from our old school, said Macmillan. I had set it up beforehand with the school and even managed to have our Grade 4 teacher share in the moment. In our Grade 3 classroom, where it all began, I got down on one knee and pro- posed to her. After two years of engage- ment we have finally set a date. The date is Sept. 19 in Muskoka. Macmillan is a 42-year-old self-employed machinist, while Fleming is a 43-year-old dance teacher. Both reside in Oakville. Dreams really do come true as I can certainly attest to, but to give Bethany a dream wedding and honeymoon would be the icing on the cake. And that cake will be designed to look like Linbrook Public School. Cake will look like Linbrook Continued from page 1 I wished upon every single (star) that I could just get that moment back again that we had 20 years ago, and share that kiss again.
