Focusing on high quality music education, this music schools focus is on creating a pos- itive and challenging environment for learning. The school takes pride in its teachers, who are professional musicians and passionate teachers. The school strives in pursuing excellence in music education and instilling a strong founda- tion in music for its students. The school currently offers private les- sons in piano, voice, violin and flute, and depending on each students age and experiences, lessons will vary in length between 30 and 60 minutes. A core aspect of the private lesson program lies in strong communication between the teacher, student, and parents; as well as creating a community atmosphere within the school through workshops and mas- ter classes. This means that students are given the opportunity to set short term goals, through preparing for performanc- es, thus challenging them to become active in their learning as well as being able to meet others within the school and community. When we learn and share from each other, we create an energetic community that is respectful, and full of curiosity and inspiration, says Monika Stolarz, School Founder. The school also offers a wide variety of group classes and programs that are unique to the school. Group classes in Music Theory and Music History give stu- dents a strong understanding behind the music they are playing, which creates a heighted awareness while performing. Continued on page 12 A Music School has Hatched The Oakville Childrens Music Theatre is now in its sixteenth year in Oakville. Dianne Devaux founder/director and her staff are proud of the many years of working closely with so many children in their pursuit of musical theatre as an art form and most importantly a self esteem and confidence building pro- gram. We are fortunate to have been able to help many children explore their natural talents and potential, says Devaux. Our program is designed to do just that. With the focus on fun, hard work and teamwork all students perform in a full Broadway Style musical showcase in June. A separate musical production is tailored for each of the three class levels. All teachers have university degrees and are sensitive to the individual require- ments of our students. There is a five to one staff / student ratio and Dianne is personally involved in all classes. This year the Level Three Class will be performing the Broadway favourite Annie. To keep a little mystery in the program for our younger actors the Level One and Level Two productions will be announced later in the fall. Oakville Childrens Music Theatre...Sixteen Years in Oakville Dianne Devaux When children struggle at school, they are very often asked to try harder. When they are already putting forth their best effort, then harder might not be the answer. Perhaps the solution is to Try Different. Try switching the approach completely, which could result in same student, same effort, and improved results. Try Different - Consider Glenburnie School. Glenburnies passionate educators focus on the end result in education, including the development of effec- tive 21st Century skills: Critical and Analytical skills, Leadership, Emotional Intelligence Awareness, Intellectual Curiosity, Oral and Written Communication skills, Economics, and Global Awareness. Classrooms are viewed as creative work- places, where students are supported and encouraged to apply their newly learned concepts, skills, and ideas in practical applications. Student creativity, innovation, and progress are celebrated, which in turn increases their sense of self-worth and self-esteem. When a learn- ing environment is creative, stimulating, and challeng- ing, exciting things happen! Students today have great ideas and they desire to have active input and choice in their educational expe- rience. They are bright, intuitive, imaginative, and often very creative. Children of the 21st Century seek truth and effective tools to prepare them to become leaders in tomorrows world.
