LOWER TAX INCREASES The average rate of tax increase was 35% higher under Mulvale 3.61% under Mulvale vs. 2.67% under Burton. Council unanimously directed sta to prepare a 2011 budget with no more than a 3% tax rate increase not 8% as some candidates are claiming. Burton never raised taxes as much as Mulvale did and he never will! LOWER TAXPAYER-PAID DEBT Taxpayer-paid debt more than doubled under Mulvale from $10.8 million to $24.2 million. The same debt decreased by 9% under Burton, to $22 million. Oakville continues to use only a fraction of its debt capacity. Our credit rating is the highest possible: AAA. You c an count on Burton to continue making developers not taxpayers pay for debt used to build infrastructure needed due to growth. If Mulvale is against developer-paid debt, then Mulvale is against making developers pay for the costs of growth. HIGHER DEVELOPMENT CHARGES Burton and his council unanimously raised development charges 60%. This shifts millions of dollars of infrastructure costs to developers and o of taxpayers. MORE FACILITIES BUILT Burton used development charges for what they were meant for: building infrastructure Oakville needs now to keep up with growth: six new arenas, one indoor soccer centre, one new community centre, one new library, more than a dozen new sports elds and better transit. IMPROVED PROTECTION, SERVICE AND LIVABILITY Burton and his council improved the response times of our re ghters. They passed by-laws to improve air quality and expand the urban forest. They cleared more snow and leaves and mowed parks sooner. They made more road repairs. Our town looks and works better. A BETTER FUTURE: GREENER, CLEANER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE A new hospital and a plan to nance the towns donation with non-tax revenues. . . Plans to keep surplus schools for community needs. . . Protection of our new development charges and our O cial Plan to control growth and protect stable neighbourhoods. . . Improvements to our environ- ment . . . Protection of our 2,300-acre Natural Heritage System. . . A better place for families to raise their children and grandchildren. LETS KEEP MOVING FORWARD! On October 25 choose the candidate who has proven to be the better manager. Vote Rob Burton Mayor of Oakville.
