WagJag, a new online local marketplace now supported by the Oakville Beaver (www.insidehalton.com), provides viewers with the opportunity to click, share and save. Heres how it works: amazing deals, available locally, are posted on WagJag.com; the deal will only be available if enough peo- ple want to make the purchase. If enough people join in a predetermined time frame, they are sent a printable electronic voucher, good for the item offered. WagJag deals can range from discounts at restaurants to spas to the coolest events, fashions or activities. This is different from some of the other deal-of-the-day websites because this is localized, with the advantage that people can visit the site, pick up a great deal from somewhere near them and share the deal with their friends, said Dave Harvey, gener- al manager for Metroland Wests Halton Division. Registration is free and you can earn cash rewards for referring friends. You can also opt to receive email alerts about specif- ic WagJag deals that interest you. For retailers, posting a deal on WagJag is a win-win situation. Businesses can take the option of news- paper or local online advertising. The deals can bring in new customers, previously unaware of goods and services offered by that local business. Local businesses will also benefit from the extensive print, online and social net- work that the WagJag deal will receive. For more information, visit WagJag.com. Do the WagJag...and save! Regional Chair Gary Carr and Halton Police Chief Gary Crowell will join members of the Halton Violence Prevention Council at an event marking Nov. 1, as the beginning of Woman Abuse Prevention Month. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd., on Monday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. This year the Halton Violence Prevention Councils work includes Women helping Women, an initiative to encourage women who have experienced abuse to get involved in the issue of violence against women. The initiative is an opportunity for women to speak up and speak out, to network and support each other and to share their ideas about services in the communi- ty. The Halton Violence Prevention Councils mission is to end violence against women and their children in our community. It is a coordinating committee, which works towards improving services for women and children experienc- ing abuse in order to achieve a healthy Halton commu- nity. Council members include the Halton Regional Police, the Halton Region, child welfare and counselling agencies, health services as well as school boards and legal services. The council continues to be engaged in the Neighbours, Friends and Families Campaign, a provin- cial campaign to raise awareness of the signs of woman abuse so people who are close to an at-risk woman or an abusive man can help. Anyone interested in seeing a Neighbours, Friends and Families presentation or wishing to engage in the Women helping Women initiative can call 905.637- 5256. Are you currently involved in an abusive relation- ship? You and your family can get help. Call the 24-hour crisis line of Halton Womens Place (south 905-332- 7892, north 905-878-8555) or the Assaulted Womens Helpline (toll free: 1-866-863-0511).
