The Holy Trinity Titans all but locked up a home game in the Halton high school senior football Division 1 semifinals with a 20-19 win over the Nelson Lords Friday at Bronte Athletic Field. Ashton Rochester scored a game-tying touchdown with a minute remaining in regulation and Chris Ianuzzi booted the winning convert as the Titans improved to 4-0 on the season. Nelson, which turned the ball over on downs on its final possession, fell to second place at 3-1. In order to catch Trinity, the Lords would have to win their last two games and have the Titans lose their final two contests. First place in the division guarantees home-field advantage in the playoff semi- finals. We still have two more games to play, said Titans coach Joe Moscato, but it definitely puts us in first place right now. Brendan Clarke had Trinitys other touchdown Friday, while Sebastian Lamas kicked a pair of field goals. Moscato praised the efforts of both his offensive and defensive lines in the victory. Trinity ran the ball effectively throughout the contest, while the defensive line came up with five sacks of Nelson quarterback Will Finch. The game marked the third straight time Trinity has defeated its Burlington rival in the past two sea- sons. Trinity, Nelson, the defending Halton champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish and either the M.M. Robinson Rams or Assumption Crusaders will make up the four-team field in this years Division 1 play- offs. The top two teams in both Tier 1 divisions qual- ify for Division 1 postseason play, while the rest go into Division 2. The Titans hope to clinch home field in the semi- finals tomorrow (Thursday) when they host Assumption for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Trinity. The Halton Division 1 final, which will be played at McMaster University in Hamilton, is scheduled for Nov. 11. Jon Kuiperij The Oakville intermediate AA Hornets are still searching for their first win of the Provincial Womens Hockey League season, but theyre getting closer. Oakville scored two late goals to force overtime in its most recent game Sunday in Windsor, but the Southwest Wildcats scored 24 sec- onds into overtime to down the Hornets 5-4. Lindsay Grigg (two), Christine Grant and Anissa Gamble scored the Oakville goals as the Hornets (0-5-1) earned their first point of the season. Grigg added two assists for a four-point afternoon, while Gamble contributed three helpers. Grant set up a pair of markers. The previous day, the Hornets were blanked 3-0 by the Bluewater Hawks in Strathroy. Oakville was outshot 37-11 in the game and went 0-for-6 on the power play. The Hornets look to break into the win column Saturday when they are home to the Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres. Game time at Joshuas Creek Arenas is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. OCTOBER SKI & SNOWBOARD SWAP 144 SPEERS ROAD, STEPS FROM OUR MAIN STORE! @ CORBETTS SKI & SNOWBOARD SHOPS OWN & RABIKSREO SK SN ARDBE WC BT NSOCTOBER SKI & S A S AP 905 845-1561 905 845-8347 Go to www.corbetts.com/reruns for more details.
