Gold Award Winner for Best Dentist in Oakville! 19 Thursday , O ctober 21, 2010 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m Taking care of your feet is important to your general well- being and J. Richard Werkman knows this better than anyone. Rick is a registered chiropodist, who has recently opened a second location in his hometown of Oakville, at 1495 Cornwall Road, Suite 33. It is with a tremendous sense of pride that we return to our roots in Oakville. While the land- scape has change significantly, it something feels like we never left, Vicki Werkman says of their return to Oakville. Werkman Chiropody provides exceptional care for a variety of foot needs for children, adults, seniors, diabetics, athletes and more. In his practice, they look after routine foot care, treating everyday prob- lems such as corns, calluses, thick/ingrown toenails, nail sur- gery, plantar warts, heel/arch and general foot pain, foot ulcers and wounds, skin infections of the foot, arthritic foot problems and sports injuries of the foot. Chiropodists are licensed foot care specialists and regulated health care providers trained in foot assessment and orthotic pre- scription. Chiropodists assess for structural abnormalities in the foot, often present from birth, to determine the need for a custom orthotic device. These deformities are not uncommon in those pre- senting with foot, knee, hip and lower back pain. It is through the use of custom orthotics that this pain is reduced. Rick Werkmans new office was designed with an environmentally friendly conscience. We had a mis- sion to practice environmentally friendly processes, meaning we researched furniture and fixtures prior to purchase in order to have a minimal impact on the environ- ment. In following a trend that showed to be extremely resourceful in his first location, the office is completely chartless. Not only does this reduce the offices carbon foot- print, it makes tracking patient care a lot more efficient. Digital photos of all patient's feet are taken so that we have an exact documen- tation of any present lesions, skin patterns, moles and pigmentation within a mole, etc. Rick's background gives every- one happy feet. He graduated at the top of his class in 1991 from the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, the only school in Ontario where you can study chi- ropody. He is a member of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario and is certified in local anesthesia and nail surgery. Rick has also recently upgraded his degree through a Bachelor of Science Podiatric Medicine Program. He studied research methods, with electives concentrating in the areas of podogerontology (study of senior's feet), podopharmacology (study of foot-related medications) and sports medicine (sports related foot problems & injuries). "This broad range of knowledge of our practitioners and good working relationships with the community doctors and the detail of follow- through that we give our patients is what makes us unique," Vicki explains. Rick and his staff look forward to meeting new patients. For more information on the clinic and all of your foot care needs visit www.werkman.ca, or call 905-845- 4817 for an appointment. J.
