Community clinics will begin on Nov. 1. As always, Halton Region is taking the flu season very seriously, reported Halton Region Chair Gary Carr. The flu immu- nization clinics are ready to go and Health Department staff are working closely with our community partners such as the school boards, hospitals, and municipali- ties. Flu immunization is free and recom- mended for all those six months of age and older. The H1N1 pandemic flu strain is now one of the three flu strains included in the annual seasonal flu vaccine, so there is only one flu vaccination required. Complications from the flu can be quite serious and even life threatening to some people, stated Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton Region Medical Officer of Health. The following actions can help prevent flu: get the annual flu vaccination, wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol based hand rub, cough and sneeze into your sleeve, and stay home when you are sick. Region starts seasonal flu shot clinics The author of Repairing Rainbows, Lynda Fishman, who knows all too well about loss, will speak in Oakville about the difference between truly living and not just merely existing. Fishman will be speaking at Shaarei Beth El Congregation on Sunday, Oct. 31. The book was published this summer on the 40th anniversary of a tragic plane crash that claimed the lives 160 individu- als on board, including Fishmans mother and two younger siblings. The flight was from from Los Angeles to Montreal and crashed in Malton, now a part of Mississauga. Fishman was 13-years-old at the time and was left only with her father, as her immediate family. Teetering between childhood and ado- lescence, Fishman was left with new responsibilities, including helping a father in shock, a house to take care of and how to proceed in life. She will speak at 10 a.m. All are wel- come to attend. The synagogue is located at 186 Morrison Rd. For more information visit www.sbe.ca.
