If additional funding is required, staff must submit a report to council. She said if council itself wished to hire lobbyists independently of staff, they would seek public input on the decision. She said this was done during the previous council to develop a campaign for Ontario Municipal Board reform. When reached for comment Flynn called the hiring of professional lobbyists a waste of taxpayer money that was supposed to go to frontline services. Flynn did make a distinction between lob- byists, who strictly lobby, and those who do things like help with applications because it provides better value to the taxpayers. The last one he said he has no problem with. Flynn said legislation is coming that will make the hiring of certain lobbyists with tax- payer money illegal. (Lobbying) is what MPPs are for and Ill stand by my record and what Ive been able to achieve for the people of Oakville, said Flynn. The billion dollars for the new Oakville hospital, which is by far the largest provincial capital investment in Oakvilles history and possibly in any community in Ontarios histo- ry, that was something I worked very hard for under very competitive conditions.
