After responding to the needs of the people at Torontos Wellesley Street public housing building that caught fire on Oct. 4, an Oakville pet food bank has been left in dire straits. The local pet food bank, Project Maddie, responded to the needs of the people and their animals who were displaced by the devastating fire. Within 12 hours of hearing of the needs, Project Maddie sent 300 pounds of pet food to the Welleseley Community Centre, where the displaced residents were temporarily sheltered. Over four days the local pet food bank has sent 900 pounds of pet food to the shelter. Since then Project Madie has replenished its stock of pet food. However, it used its financial resources to do so and now no longer has enough money to cover its operating costs. According to a press release, Project Maddie needs a minimum of $3,000 to help cover its operating expenses. This is by far the largest scale relief effort we've ever coordinated, said Project Maddie director Kimberley Ford, in the release.
