By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Who knew that a kite could fly you around the world? But it has done just that for Oakvilles Gary Mark who is an avid kite flyer and wholesaler and has represented Canada at numerous festivals worldwide. He just returned from his week-long stay in Malaysia where he exhibited his favourite hobby and this week (Oct. 28) he is flying to France to do so again, in both cases expens- es-paid by the organizers. The 43-year-old, who owns Blue Sky Kites, is an exhibitor of show kites at festi- vals. As such, he is invited to the internation- al events where he sets up his various flying creatures, from 90-foot long octopuses and 45-foot long scuba divers to things much smaller, and simply flies them alongside other large creatures. People are surprised when I say I repre- sent Canada at international kite festivals, he said. Im not Adam van Koeverden, but I do it. The kite aficionado got into the wind- powered hobby with his then-girlfriend, now-wife Michelle Welsford, more than 20 years ago when they lived in Vancouver, BC. He admits her passion is maybe not as Winds have blown kite enthusiast around the world
