The Rangers won the tournament championship with six straight victories, including a 4-1 triumph over the Ottawa Silver Seven in the gold-medal game. That meant Veeneman ended up in the Trent River, since the coach promised his players they could throw him in the water if they won the tournament title. Oakville's other victories at the Nationals tourney came over the host Peterborough squad, the Nepean Raiders, Quinte Hawks, Hamilton Cyclones and St. Catharines Warriors. The tyke white Cowboys managed to keep things close in the first half of their game before Guelph opened up a larger lead. The tykes were the fourth seed in the A bracket of the playoffs. Haltons atoms, fifth in the regular sea- son, nearly won their game in the final minute but were denied the go-ahead touchdown. Braden Pinto kicked a pair of converts in the loss, Dayle Smith threw some good blocks on offence and Chris Dadd prevented a touchdown in the third quarter with a solid tackle. The Oakville Rangers peewee AE 2 team, comprised by both minor- and major-aged play- ers, won the Caledonia Challenge Cup recently, defeating a hard-hitting Essex team in the final. Oakville has also started its Tri-County league season with six wins in its first seven games of Russell Division play.
