Dr. John Goffin will speak in Hamptons Restaurant on Sept. 9. Goffin works in the department of oncology at McMaster Universitys Juravinksi Cancer Centre and he will speak about the research at the cen- tre that is funded by the Terry Fox Foundation. This is a great opportunity to hear from a world-class scientist who is conducting cancer research right in our backyard. Dr. Goffin is inspiring, funny and passionate about his work, said Keri Schoonderwooerd, a local Terry Fox Run volunteer who arranged for Dr. Goffin to come to Oakville, in a press release. The event will feature a breakfast at the restaurant and begins at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast cost is $12 and there is an $8 minimum donation to the Terry Fox Foundation. The event takes place a bit more than a week before the 30th anniversary run in Oakville on Sept. 19 at Coronation Park. The run will also celebrate sur- vivors this year with special Survivor T-shirts. People who register early for the run will receive a red t-shirt.
