The Cowboys scored just the second touchdown allowed by the Brampton Bulldogs all season but it wasn't nearly enough as Halton fell 48-6 at Centennial Park Stadium. Jeremy Clark capped a three-minute drive by Halton at the end of the first half, hitting Hunter Melito for a 50-yard TD reception for the Cowboys lone score. The only other touchdown allowed by Brampton this season was on a kick- off return by Halton's Joshua Roberts in the teams' regular-season meeting. These boys competed in every game this season. They never quit, including today. I cannot ask any more of them said Cowboys head coach Paolo Iacoviello. I am very proud of this team. Halton had advanced to the final with a 13-7 semifinal win over the Brantford Bisons. The Cowboys finished the season with five wins, three losses and three ties. Halton will now look to defend its championship this fall in the Southwestern Ontario Football Association of Leagues. The team will also travel to Florida in December to compete in the Pop Warner Football Tournament represent- ing Canada in the Global Challenge international division. Hinchcliffe third in California Hisey signs contract with Islanders Oakvilles Rob Hisey has signed a two-way contract with the New York Islanders. After playing four seasons in Europe, Hisey returned to North America last season, signing with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League. Hisey had 19 goals and 41 points in 24 games with the Oilers, earning a call- up to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. He had 11 goals and 25 points in 37 games with Springfield. The 26 year old is expected to begin the sea- son with the Islanders AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Young named to all-academic team Michael Young, a senior at Longwood University, has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors Assocations academic all-state team for the 2009/10 sea- son. Young, a business finance major, was also named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The Oakville Trafalgar grad led Longwood with a 74.7 scoring average over 29 rounds and posted two top-10 finishes and seven top-20 finishes. James Hinchcliffe claimed his fifth podium finish of the season, placing third at the Carneros 100 at the Infineon Raceway in California. The 23-year-old Oakville native currently sits sec- ond in the driver standings through 10 races in the Firestone Indy Lights Series. Hinchcliffe qualified third but got by Charlie Kimball in the first turn on the opening lap. However, with Hinchcliffe battling some handling issue, Kimball was able to later regain second and it remained that way throughout the 40-lap race. We weren't quite as strong as we'd have liked from the get-go and that definitely had an impact, Hinchcliffe said after the race. Hinchcliffe trails series leader J.K. Vernay, who won Sunday's race, 412-341 in the point standings. SPORTSBRIEFS More sports, page 41INDEPENDENTLY O W N ED AN D O PE RA TE D Realty Enterprises Inc.
