Choices are a big part of our everyday life, and every choice leads us to where we are today. We often have no idea how effective our choices are until many years down the road. People generally believe that it is the big choices in life that have the most profound effect on the direction of their lives. Actually, the opposite is true. It is the myr- iad of small, day-to-day choices that collec- tively, are the most powerful. Choices made, often years earlier, lead us to our current place in our lives. Surprisingly, avoidance is also a choice, and can lead to lifelong pat- terns of behaviour which can change or limit future opportunities. Choice is a pow- erful tool, as each choice collectively deter- mines our future. At Glenburnie, we offer our students con- tinuous opportunities throughout the school day to exercise individual choice, whether in the classroom, when participat- ing in a wide range of extra curricular and sports activities, or on the playground. We recognize the power of choice as an integral part of the Glenburnie education. When children have an opportunity to partner with their teachers in making choices involving Critical and Analytical Skills, Leadership Opportunities, and in stimulat- ing intellectual curiosity, classrooms become creative workplaces. Students then take personal responsibility and greater ownership of their studies and gain experi- ence in making effective choices when applying their newly learned concepts, skills, and ideas in practical applications. At Glenburnie, student creativity, innova- tion, and progress are celebrated, which in turn increases a students sense of self- worth and self-esteem. When the learning environment is creative, stimulating, chal- lenging, and bursting with experiences involving individual choice, exciting things happen! Students today have great ideas and they desire to have active input and choice includ- ed in their educational experience as they are bright, intuitive, imaginative, and often very creative. Children of the 21st Century seek truth and effective tools to prepare them to become leaders in tomorrows world. Glenburnie School provides and progres- sive and innovative private school education for students in Preschool to Grade 8. For more information, call (905) 338-6236 or visit www.glenburnieschool.com.
