Row, row, row your boat A 64-year-old man is recovering from surgery after being shot in the face with a pellet gun, Sunday after- noon. Police said the man, who was vis- iting from Alberta, was in the passen- ger seat of a convertible that was trav- eling westbound on Lakeshore Road, near Forsythe Street, when he was shot in the right cheek with a pellet. The man was transported to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where he had surgery to remove pel- let, which penetrated his skin and become lodged in his face. Police said investigation revealed the shot had come from a nearby apartment balcony. A resident of that building has been arrested in connection with the incident. Andreei Radulescu, 24, of Forsythe Street has been charged with assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and breach of probation. Police said the suspect did not know the victim and the incident appears to have been random. Police continue to investigate this incident and anyone with informa- tion should contact the 20 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747 ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Halton Region said it has found another batch of mosquitoes in the region that tested positive for West Nile virus. This batch was collected last week in Burlington in the area of Guelph Line and New Street. This is the third set of mosqui- toes with the virus found in Halton. The first two were collect- ed in Oakville. Our comprehensive West Nile virus surveillance program is once again helping to show the distribu- tion of West Nile virus positive mosquitoes in Halton Region, said Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton Region Medical Officer of Health. Until the heavy frosts of the fall months, the threat of West Nile virus to humans is likely to continue. It is important for Halton residents to keep taking precautions to prevent exposure to mosquito bites at least throughout the month of September. Mosquitoes can transmit the virus to humans after feeding on birds infected with the virus. The following are steps that residents can take to protect themselves and their families from mosquitoes: Cover up. Wear light- coloured, long-sleeved shirts and pants with tightly-woven fabric.
