By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A year after it just missed its fundraising goal, the United Way of Oakville (UWO) has announced it will keep the same target for its 2010 fundraising campaign. The UWO will once again strive to raise $3.6 mil- lion, a mark it missed by $300,000 in 2009, it announced at its campaign kickoff event at the Harbour Banquet and Conference Centre Wednesday morning. We have to look at where we are in the economy. Our economy is stronger than it was a year ago, said Mary Cardamone, the campaign cabinet chair, to the Oakville Beaver. We were still coming out of a huge economic downturn. Now, were far more optimistic about our future, particularly in Canada. Weve spent time speaking to companies in Oakville, looking at all of the aspects that affect our ability to fundraise and we feel very confident that we can do this. The agency funds 33 local health and social service agencies and 60 different programs with an emphasis on prevention and crisis intervention.
