Theres a lot of analysis going on prior to determining the goal. So we have looked at the capacity in this community to raise that kind of money. In fact with a com- munity of this size, this population and the demographic, one would think that we could have success in raising more but we want to be realistic, she said. She added another factor can help the United Way raise its goal, is its campaign cabinet of commit- ted and engaged individuals. More than 100 people came out to the kickoff breakfast event, including contributors, United Way volunteers and the agencies supported by the organization. In her address to the gathering, Cardamone said, While the United Way can help thousands of people every year, there are many more that still need our help. For many of our agencies waiting lists are still a reality and that is some- thing they have been facing for a long time. She added that by contributing to the United Way people can help thousands more people and reduce waiting lists so that people can get the help they need. She said that by contributing people can Live United, which is the organiza- tions motto. Other presenters spoke at the event as well. A new contributor to the UWO is Promation, a nuclear technology company that moved to Oakville earlier this year.
