She personally chose to direct the play because of its sense of humour. I had previously seen some scenes from the play back when I was studying directing in universi- ty and I remembered that it was this funny play and I was curious to read the rest of it, she said. The Polish-born Sokol immi- grated to Canada with his family at the age of two years old and grew up in St. Thomas, Ontario. It was when he wanted to pur- sue animation that he moved to Oakville five years ago. He attend- ed one year of art fundamentals at Sheridan College and then entered the four-year degree pro- gram from which he just graduat- ed. He added that his teacher and mentor for the project, Maury Whyte, helped him greatly to develop his story. After gradua- tion, Sokol did a summer con- tract with an animations compa- ny in Toronto, which ended recently. Eggcellent will play at the Short Cuts Canada Programme 6, which has screening times of Sept. 15 at 9 p.m. at the Tiff Bell LightBox 2 and on Sept. 17 at 2:45 p.m. at the Jackman Hall in the Art Gallery of Ontario. Inside a Life in Theatre takes place tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Stratford Festival stars Michael Therriault and Chilina Kennedy. Featured will be a conversation with the National Post theatre critic Robert Cushman. Therriault has earned great renown for his tremendous versa- tility as an actor, in roles ranging from Gollum in Lord of the Rings: The Musical to Irving Berlin in The Tin Pan Alley Rag. He received a Dora Award for his starring role as Leo Bloom in the Toronto produc- tion of The Producers, a second Dora for Lord of the Rings, and was nominated for a Gemini Award for his depiction of Tommy Douglas in the CBC Television special Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story. This past summer, he could be seen on stage at Stratford in Peter Pan and Dangerous Liaisons. Kennedy is a fast-rising star at Stratford, from her critically-laud- ed performances as Maria in West Side Story and Philia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, to her star turn as Eva Peron in this seasons Evita, the festivals first rock opera. Kennedy built her reputation over three sea- sons at the Shaw Festival before making her Stratford debut in 2009. Admission to the talk is free. The college is located at 1430 Trafalgar Rd.
