Wendy Perkins, who has a long list of achievements and qualifications, accepted the position. Street Soccer Canada pro- grams include work with shelter populations in major Canadian cities and organiz- es the national homeless tournament and other activ- ities. It uses the sport of soccer to inspire dreams and to achieve social inclusion. Over the past six years, more than 300 players have been involved in the pro- gram, some of whom have represented Canada at the international Homeless World Cup. Perkins was the Oakville ATHENA Leadership Award Recipient in 2008, founder and executive director of Home Suite Hope Shared Living from 2004-2009, and community action director for Oakvilles Salvation Army from 2000-2004. Previously, Perkins was director of development for the Canadian Olympic Foundation from 1996- 2000, and community rela- tions manager for the United Way of Oakville from 1992-1996. A featured presenter at the Social Housing and Homelessness Conference of the Ontario Municipal Social Service Association and a presenter at the National Homelessness Conference in Calgary in 2009, Wendy was also a member of the Halton Region Housing Task Force in 2009. She played a pivotal role in the development of Dragon Boat Canada. Since 2005, Perkins has been commodore of the Wai Nui O Kanaka Outrigger Canoe Club, and remains an active supporter of all paddling sports. This is a great opportu- nity to use my passion and belief in the power of sport to benefit marginalized people who are experiencing home- lessness, Perkins said in a press release.
