Naar was most recently the principal at St. Paul elementary school in Burlington. She has served the Halton Catholic board in a variety of roles for 21 years, including 13 years as a teacher, three years as a vice- principal and five years as a principal, serv- ing the St. John and St. Paul school com- munities. In addition to her school-based leader- ship, Naar has served on a number of board committees and initiatives. Toni Pinelli was appointed superintend- ent of education for Bishop Reding S.S. in Milton and its associated elementary schools. Her duties also will include safe schools issues, continuing education, health issues, and policy and procedures. Both women began their new roles in mid-August. Pinelli was most recently an assistant to the superintendent of education, second- ary schools within the York Catholic District School Board, where her responsi- bilities included the Safe Schools program, expulsion and suspension programs, alter- native education initiatives and leadership development programs. She also introduced an E-Learning pro- gram and initiated the International Baccalaureate program within York Region. Pinelli has been an elementary teacher, consultant, secondary teacher, secondary department head, secondary VP, secondary principal and an assistant superintendent. The strengths and experiences of these Catholic educators will serve the needs of students, staff and stakeholders of the board very well, said Michael Pautler, the boards director of education. The Halton Catholic District School Board has two new senior administrators. Lorrie Naar was appointed superintendent of edu- cation for Corpus Christi Secondary School in Burlington, Holy Trinity S.S. in Oakville and their affiliated elementary schools. A wine tasting event is taking place at Oakvilles Cucci Ristorante, 119 Jones St., on Wednesday, Sept. 22. This is the first event of the 2010-2011 season presented by Oakville chapter of the Ontario Wine Society. Organizers promise the event will be both educational and entertaining for art lovers. The event is titled Awaken Your Wine Senses and will be hosted by Peter Bodnar Rod, a wine educa- tor, certified sommelier and the director of sales, marketing and hospitality for 13th Street Winery. Rod will help participants savour the smells and tastes of oak and malo influences, maturing and softening of tannins and acid- ity while residual sugars will lead tasters to discover the effect of foods on the perception of these flavours and textures. The wines at the event will be: 13th Street 2000 Blanc de Noirs Brut, Funk Vineyard 2009 Riesling ($23.95), June's Vineyard 2009 Chardonnay ($17.95) compared to 2007 Sandstone Vineyard Old Vines Chardonnay ($27.95), Funk Vineyard 2007 Pinot Noir ($34.95) compared to Old Vines 2005 Gamay (library stock $25.95), 13 Below Zero 2008 Riesling (library stock $18.95).
