The 42-foot-yacht was towed into Port Dalhousie Harbour on Thursday, Sept. 9, after Halton, Hamilton and Niagara police units and the Canadian Coast Guard found it submerged, near the Fifty Point Conservation Area, with only the cabin roof and some short masts and radio gear above water. Experts who have examined the boat indicated that damage to its hull is consistent with it run- ning aground at some point. Police still do not know where such an accident may have occurred. Ruppells frightened pet cat was found clinging to the portion of the boat still remaining on the surface and was rescued by the coast guard. The cats identification tags allowed police to identify Ruppell, who they said has been missing since sailing from Oakville on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Police said the vessel was lifted out of Lake Ontario and searched Thursday however nothing was found. The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to treat this incident as a missing persons case and do not suspect foul play.
